As One Door Closes....
Sad to hear one of Winchester's most loved independents is closing its doors at the end of the month but as Jane McIntyre tells us here, as one door closes, another one opens.
To all my customers, old and new……
Sadly my shop in Winchester will be closing its doors on April 30th. So many lovely independents have closed in this beautiful city, such a shame as without us there are only the chains, coffee shops and phone stores, not enough really to encourage people in to shop. But for me it’s become too hard to compete with all the discounts that on line shopping can offer and of course the rise of on line shopping reduces the footfall past my little emporium. Add that to rising rents and rates and I see the writing on the wall, so before I get into trouble I want to exit while still on a high - well, almost!
Interior design has always been my first love and was what inspired me to open the shop. So I’m not giving up altogether, just retreating back to my home studio to concentrate on projects and having more time to devote to my design clients. I will still be using the workroom in Twyford to produce our lovely bespoke curtains and soft furnishings and be keeping the upholstery studio on board for basically anything that can take cloth. I’ll be expanding my accounts for beautiful fabrics and wallpapers, will still remain as an agent for Pure and Original Paints and will have a lot more time to source individual pieces of furniture for clients.
I will still be keeping my account with the beautiful Bella Notte Linens, so if you are planning any bedroom bonanzas please keep in touch. Also ibride, with their wonderfully eclectic selection of trays and nonsense, plus Mineheart for their equally as ridiculous canvases and then the quite exquisite Sthal ceramics will all remain on my website, along with a few carefully curated pieces of furniture and any other odd thing that takes my fancy.
I‘m looking forward to being able to blog more on a regular basis. The plan is to inform and inspire, perhaps about new fabrics I’ve found, exciting new products I’ve seen, ways of mixing ideas that you may not have thought of, exhibitions and events and perhaps some interesting thoughts from projects I’m working on. I’m also active on Instagram, so if you’re not already following me take a look at jmdwinchester and on Pinterest janemcintyredesign.com
My website remains the same, as do my mobile number and email. The only change is my home office number, see below - if I’m sipping gin and gazing at the garden I’ve barely seen for five years, please do leave a message, I will always get back to you.
I’ll love you - but not leave you - and thank you so much for your custom and support, it’s all been such a pleasure!
